The only way to get our Elliot to nap these days is to take one with him in the "big bed" and while this is a bit frustrating and only serves to exacerbate my night-owl tendencies it is also so deliciously sweet. For some reason, snuggling down in the blankets (even after I've had to be rather firm about getting him there because he desperately needs it!) is when he he brings his face right up close to mine and tells me that he loves me. The other day he surprised me by giving me "100 kisses" all over my face (and I think he was pretty accurate!) which made me wiggle and giggle and it was so sweet and adorable and precious. One of those moments you wouldn't trade for anything!Rachel McQuailnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-66613067271253421032014-03-09T21:08:05.692-04:002014-03-09T21:08:05.692-04:00Ohhh, don't I feel your pain!!! We bit the bullet and had a woodstove installed and purchased firewood just this past month and got our house up to a balm 62 degrees. YES! To us, after having it a bone-chilling 52 degrees, this feels like Florida! We live, eat sleep and even cook on the woodstove now - may as well stay where it's warm in this ol' house ... I'm not sure how we can get the house warmer next year so I may spend the summer knitting wool socks and locating many more hot water bottles.
But bonus - I've heard that colder temps in a house help burn fat so you and I, girl, we're on a great diet plan! Yippeee!

Now, bring on spring!Gillian Gauthierhttp://www.gigiphotography.com/blognoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-29480943532114476492014-03-08T07:48:59.843-05:002014-03-08T07:48:59.843-05:00I am only feeling the winter blues now. I totally relate to the old house, no insulation, so cold you are wearing your hat, gloves, and scarf inside winter.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-77016155110493211972014-03-02T00:01:48.821-05:002014-03-02T00:01:48.821-05:00Hi Jenn, so seeing your give-away on Lisa's bl...Hi Jenn, so seeing your give-away on Lisa's blog has reminded me that I really did want to comment on this post as it so clearly articulates how I feel about our home. I even left it open for Robin to read to try and help him understand better where I'm coming from much of the time. Things need their places! And that's why, after 4 years of being in this house now that the kids are finally old enough to both go to their grandparents for a weekend I made the request that they take them for 4 weekends (2 each) this winter so that we could tackle the major problem areas in our home: our bookshelves, the kitchen, the workroom & the office.
It's not a major purge, although it is great to get rid of a few things, but it's getting the last of the things out of boxes from moving and our wedding, and sorting and organizing and finding homes for things that work now that we know our space better.
We are currently 2/3 of the way through our second weekend and man does it ever feel good to be getting this place sorted out as we do, we love our cozy little home here in Kitchener and it will be even that much more enjoyable when everything has it's place. :)
Here's hoping you're feeling even cozier in your home with all your new insulation!!Rachel McQuailnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-71204096046596768372014-02-04T07:08:04.513-05:002014-02-04T07:08:04.513-05:00I am one of those anal neat freaks and everything ...I am one of those anal neat freaks and everything in my house has a place (except the things in my husband's garage - I give him that space). We don't even have a junk drawer. However, since our home is always under construction, I know what it is like to have one room like your living room, that is perfect and makes you feel like all is right in the world for just a couple of moments when you are there (and actually have the time to sit and enjoy it). We redid our bathroom a couple years ago and installed tile floor, wood walls, and an old clawfoot tub. Taking a shower is my massage, stiff drink, large hot chocolate with whipped cream, all rolled into one 15 minute escape. Every room in the house has at least one unfinished wall in it, but when I'm standing in the shower, I can forget all that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-77182641135015614492014-01-31T13:55:03.781-05:002014-01-31T13:55:03.781-05:00Just discovered your blog today and I love it. I ...Just discovered your blog today and I love it. I have been kicking around the idea of doing a tech-free Sunday for a while, though have not implemented it yet. TV is easy - we don't have it, but the computer is difficult - my husband works on his side business (our future) and I enjoy spending some time in blog land. But it would make me feel great to know that we are doing it for one day. Love the hot chocolate in the mason jars, but they need some of the mason jar cozies that I just knitted - we use mason jars for as much as possible around here. But what really made my day - the comment in your Small Noteables section about the funnel in the mouth. Almost made me spit out my soup! I live in State College, PA, home to Penn State University, one of the biggest party schools in the country, and I went to college there, so I knew exactly what you were talking about! Though I am proud to say I don't have the skills to do it! Oh, and I love handmade soap without chemical fragrances in them, which is hard to find, and yours look great!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-61952820625453177622014-01-30T10:52:59.086-05:002014-01-30T10:52:59.086-05:00Thank you for blogging - and thanks for this post ...Thank you for blogging - and thanks for this post - I COMPLETELY agree with you :)Mariannenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-27843215296566228622014-01-30T09:57:51.857-05:002014-01-30T09:57:51.857-05:00Thanks Susan for stopping by! I love your post about unplugging. Thanks for sharing the pics. My favorite of course is your son who went back to bed when no tv was at hand. Love it! And your living room is so lovely. Guess you won't have a hard time with today's task of seeking gratitude for our homes. Although it is sometimes easier for others to see things we don't isn't it. Why is that? What silly creatures we are. Anyway, nice to have found you. I went through it this past March when I had two of my bunnies give birth within a few days. The one mother killed all of her babies and the second mother was not caring for her babies. I managed to save one baby out of 8 and it took a lot of caring and dedication on my part . I had to force the mother that killed her babies to feed him twice a day for about 4 weeks and also wipe his but from front to back to make sure he was going number 1 and 2.. I kept him warm in one of my fluffy slippers in his own cage and watched him grow from a little piglet to a white bunny with blue eyes(and a touch of red). He is now 7 months old and every time I look at him I know that he is here because I cared.

I keep my bunnies as pets but regardless of what the purpose of their life is, what matters is that you cared and as you said you did actually give a shit about their quality of life. It is funny because the lady that educated me on how to take care of baby bunnies is a rabbit breeder. I talked to her for about 2 hours to find out all about her as well as what I needed to do to save the baby bunny. She breeds the rabbits to sell them for meat. She takes very good care of them to make sure that their quality of life is the best for the time they are with her. She truly cares about all of them but has to do it because it is her means of making a living.

Thank you for sharing your experience and better luck next time!Jen Chislettnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3788866978720971549.post-62189832775622800722013-10-01T12:23:10.199-04:002013-10-01T12:23:10.199-04:00What a lovely array of fall colours! I was also giving him a gentle back rub at the same time. It happened that the sermon ended just as I ended his back rub, and, loudly for all to hear, my boy proclaimed "Ahhh, that was amazing!"
